Evacuation warnings for the Canyon Crest Fire are lifted near Jurupa Valley

Firefighters are getting the upper hand on the Canyon Crest Fire, burning between Jurupa Valley and Fontana.
As for Friday afternoon, fire officials said the brush fire had burned 254 acres but is 15% contained. All evacuation warnings were lifted, and a care and reception center were closed.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire, the Canyon Crest fire started around 5:30 p.m. Thursday near Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane. It quickly grew to 10 acres in less than an hour, with the wind contributing to its growth.
Flames continued to consume brush along the hillside throughout the night, growing to 85 acres by 9 p.m.
The evacuation warnings were for Riverside County residents living north of 60 Freeway, east of Country Village Road, south of the Riverside-San Bernardino County line and West of Sierra Avenue. Those were lifted by Friday afternoon.
“A large augmentation of fire engines, crews, bulldozers and night flying-water dropping helicopters assisted in the suppression of the fire yesterday. Resources worked on containment throughout the night in challenging terrain with light flashy fuels and east blowing winds,” Riverside County Fire Department said in a statement Friday.
No injuries or property damage have been reported.
It’s unclear what started the fire.
